What's my postcode?

Share your location and we'll tell you the postcode of the closest suburb. It works on your device and nothing is sent to us.

Prefer not to share it? Search for a suburb or a postcode instead.

How it works

1. Your browser locates you. When you press the button, your browser asks permission. You can say no, and nothing happens.

2. We compare, on your device. The page downloads a list of 15,157 suburbs and localities with their postcodes and finds the closest one.

3. You get a postcode. Plus the next closest ones, so you can see when you are near a border. Confirm important addresses with Australia Post.

Frequently asked questions

Is my location sent to Postug?+

No. Your browser gives the location to this page, and the comparison with our list of postcodes runs on your own device. Nothing about where you are is sent to us or stored anywhere.

How accurate is the result?+

It finds the closest suburb we have address data for and gives you its postcode. In towns and cities this is usually right. Near the edge between two postcodes, or in large rural postcodes, the nearest match can be the neighbouring one. For a mailing address, confirm with Australia Post.

Why does the postcode differ from the one on my mail?+

Postcodes are delivery areas set by Australia Post, not suburb boundaries, so a house near a border can belong to the next postcode. Your street address, not your coordinates, decides the postcode of your mail.

Does it work outside Australia?+

No. It only knows Australian postcodes. If you are more than about 60 km from any address in our data, we will tell you instead of guessing.

Can I look up a postcode without sharing my location?+

Yes. Search for a suburb or a postcode: we cover 2,637 postcodes across 15,157 suburbs and localities.
