About Postug
Postug is a free reference for postcodes: which postcodes a suburb or locality has, where they are, and who lives there. We are starting with Australia and adding other countries over time.
What you'll find
- The postcode or postcodes of each suburb and locality, and the other suburbs that share each postcode.
- Population, median age, income, rent, mortgage repayments and housing mix for larger suburbs, from the Census.
- A map of each suburb's postcodes.
Where the data comes from
- Postcodes and suburbs: the Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), which lists which postcode and suburb each address belongs to. We use a processed version from the open postcodes-au project and cross-check it against a community postcode list.
- Population and housing: 2021 Census of Population and Housing, Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), by suburb and locality.
- Postcode outlines: ABS Postal Areas (POA), 2021, from the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0). Base maps © OpenStreetMap contributors.
- State and territory flags: images from Wikimedia Commons.

What to keep in mind
- Postcodes are delivery areas, not suburbs. One postcode often covers several suburbs, and a large suburb can have more than one postcode. That is why a suburb's page can list several postcodes and why the same postcode can appear on several pages.
- Map outlines are approximations. The shapes on our maps are ABS Postal Areas, a statistical approximation of each postcode. They are not the official boundaries Australia Post uses to deliver mail. Use them to see roughly where a postcode is.
- Suburb figures are not postcode figures. Census statistics on our pages are for the suburb or locality, not for its postcodes.
- Census figures are from 2021 and are lightly adjusted. The ABS randomly adjusts small counts to protect privacy, and the next Census data (2026) is not due until 2027. When a figure is not published we show a dash rather than guess.
- Our postcode list can differ from Australia Post's. Australia Post's official list is licensed and not public. Ours is built from address data, so newly created postcodes or recent changes may be missing or late. Check important addresses with Australia Post.
Which suburbs have their own page
Suburbs with roughly 14,500 or more residents, the largest in each state or territory, and the city centres of the capitals and other well-known cities get their own page. We are adding states gradually, so coverage will keep growing. Smaller suburbs are listed on their state's page.
